It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project website. We hope you enjoy your visit and learn how our hard-working staff has made a difference in the lives of the Navajo people.

We have eight Service Areas located throughout the Navajo Nation with the Central Administration located in Window Rock, Arizona. You can visit the Service Area by clicking on the link above or other links for your information. The Service Areas work with local governmental entities of the Navajo Nation known as Chapters. Each community is affiliated with a Chapter where decisions are made for the benefit of the people whether it has to do with local-grazing issues or health related concerns.

The objectives of the Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project are to provide prevention education to reduce new cases among the Navajo people; to identify individuals who are in pre-diabetes stage to reduce new developments; and provide diabetes management to reduce complications and disabilities. These objectives are being met by healthy lifestyle promotions, improvement in nutrition and diet, and exercise on a daily basis by our staff as they go out into the community.

We have been able to bring Wellness Centers to some communities and we are happy with the positive changes daily work-outs have brought to the lives of many clients with or without diabetes. This is a fight that must be fought in every home, every community, and by each individual. �The Ultimate Choice to Healthy Living Begins with You.�

Students are involved with Gardening for the Summer with Navajo Special Diabetes Project

Four Service Areas have gardening projects with the students including Chinle, Crownpoint, Fort Defiance, and Kayenta. Supervisors from those areas say the students are excited about participating in the planting and looking forward to the growth of the crops.

NNSDP Participates in ADA Diabetes Expo 2010 In Phoenix, AZ

Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project participated in the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Expo 2010 on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Phoenix Convention Center along with hundreds of other health entities under the theme of �Join the Movement to Stop Diabetes.� (Read More)

Local Leaders in Dilkon Break Ground for New Wellness Center in Partnership with Navajo Special Diabetes Project

Renovation Work on Hard Rock Wellness Center on the way for the Community

The renovation project started in March after years of delay due to funding issues, but work is progressing quite rapidly now. Randall Comb with NNSDP made a visit to the site on April 21, 2010, and said that he was pleased with the progress that has been made.(Read More)
